Hi all

I ran in to a strange problem when trying to setup a 4.8rc5 ua server.

My "ntinstall" samba server cannot, for diffent reasons, be accessed
via its dns name. It have to be access via the NetBIOS name.

When using mount.cifs I get this error:

***Trying mount.cifs \\ntinstall\install /z -o username=gu est,ro
mount error: could not find target server. TCP name ntinstall/install not found

I modified "/etc/master" so it behaves like it did in 4.7 and tried
smbmount first. That works like it should, I was wondering why 4.8rc5
use mount.cifs exclusivly?

Are cifs more effecient then smb or ?

Also, is there a reason why we use DNS name resolution instead of
NetBIOS?

Patrick wrote someting about it back in 2004

http://www.mail-archive.com/unattended-i...@lists.sourceforge.net/msg02260.html

but I dont think he got around to changing it.

Personally I think it is better to use NetBIOS name resolution since it
is what Windows will use, so if there is a confict between NetBIOS and
DNS it will behave the same before installation and after.

I was looking into how to change enable NetBIOS name resolution, but so
far I havent got it to work. I'll try again tomorrow to see if I can
figure out how to hack the Makefile.
