I dont know why I would want to have serial console boots to all of our 300 client machines on site?

We're primarily a Linux shop, but do Windows installs on occasion. Granted these are all rack mounted servers; sounds like you're dealing with desktops -- probably impractical in your case. With serial console, we can access our Linux boxes remotely, and even Windows boxes using EMS and SAC (bleh). It's really useful when someone borks their networking or needs a BIOS setting adjusted.

It works really well for us.
Cheers,

I am totally in love with Compaq's Integrated Lights Out card. Complete remote control of a server via network (http and java applet). Reset & power buttons, and best of all you can control the machine as if you're at the console, access the BIOS, configure RAID cards, etc...
