Has anyone been able to get firefox or thunderbird silent installs working with unattended?

You can find msi packages for both in the nightly builds area for both FF and TB.

Of course, nightly builds might be a little unstable. I've had no/very few problems with Firefox nightlies, but Tbird nightlies are not for the faint of heart.
At least we know Mozilla.org is moving towards a more easily installable packaging system.
FWIW, I've never installed either using an installer package. I just unzip the files, then create shortcuts where I need them. Works great.
