if you could do the following (which is annoying to do because it has to be
redone at every reboot unless you rebuild the initrd)

0. make sure your /z is writable
1. drop to shell
2. modify /etc/master  (you can use e.g.nano for this)

change the dosemu line to
dosemu.bin -f /tmp/dosemu.conf > /z/logs/dosemu.log 2> /z/logs/dosemu.err


run /etc/master

maybe that gives some more info
