How old is it? Was it in use before America? I suspect it was a Latin abbreviation, but was the "cent" used elsewhere before the US dollar and cent came into being?
I have seen http://www.charlieanderson.com/centsign.htm but it doesn't say. I'm interested in encouraging the use of this in Europe. I've a stamp here that says "38c" and that just looks like "38 cee". Some have suggested that "c" be used for the € and "¢" belongs to the $, but I don't believe it. -- Michael Everson *** Everson Typography *** http://www.evertype.com
