IE5 settings:
        face: Times New Roman
        size: "medium"

CSS settings (collapsed from several classes):
        position:absolute;top:411px;left:156px;
        width:624px;border:0px;
        margin:0px 0px 0px 0px;
        padding:12px 22px 12px 22px;
        color:#333333;
        background:#FFFFFF;
        font-size:120%;
        font-style:italic;

I guess that point size is 12 pt (= 10 pt x 120%). But this still
happens with other text size browser settings and with varying CSS
declarations and HTML tagging.

After deselection, the rendering of U+2011 stays OK but it reverts to a
square when the page is refreshed.

In the page from which I sent the screen shots, U+2011 is rendered in 7
bits as a XML entity: ‑
