Thanks for those of you who reported the problem with chdir() on Windows. It reproduced in an obvious way for me, and turned out to be a strange #ifdef issue. I am not sure how/when the #ifdef used for Windows' chdir() got broken, but the fix is nothing super hard or technical.
I plan to have a new Windows binary distribution, including this fix, very shortly. Unfortunately, the distribution is in flux in a few other areas (notably the on-line documentation and the new IDE), and I have been loathe to put up new binaries in such a state. If you have an immediate need for working chdir() on Windows and are willing to put up with a few rough edges, e-mail me and I will point you at an almost-ready new distribution fileset.
