[Daniel Boulet asks when to use "self", since IVIB's generated code
uses it a lot.]
IVIB's use of "self" and "$" are mostly an historical artifact: they
were required under Unicon's immediate predecessor language, Idol,
but became mostly unnecessary in Unicon after improvements to both
the translator and the runtime system.
So now explicit use of self is rare, but you still see it in older code,
along with situations such as passing self as a parameter, or invoking
an overridden superclass method:
self$superclassname.method()
