Hi Steve,
We will be improving the configuration system this year, but at present, the
Icon-legacy command "make X-Configure"
tries to enable X Window System graphics, even if you don't have the
required libraries and header files installed.
I am unfamiliar with your Linux distro but you need to go into your software
package installer and look for a package
labeled as "X development" or "X11 development header files" or some such.
There is a small chance that the package
is installed, but in a non-standard place, in which case you will have to
find out where the file "Xlib.h" lives on your system
and report back with that information for advice on how to get it working.
Without X header files, you can build without graphics facilities ("make
Configure") if you do not need graphics.
