Thanks for the suggestion (and to Clint for his [private email]
suggestion also).  I ended up installing libiodbc rpms (from
rpmfind.org) for RedHat EL5.  That had all the necessary headers
(and libraries) but put the headers into /usr/include/libiodbc
(Unicon expects them directly in /usr/include).  I patched
~unicon/config/unix/amd64_linux/Makedefs.in, ~unicon/aclocal.m4,
and ~unicon/configure to include /usr/include/libiodbc on
any include paths and then Unicon built (and runs) with
database support just fine.
