I think originally the code for (x:foo) generated foo(x) but it was
reported as a bug as there exists no universal type conversion signature;
it did not work on table() etc. The code generator was modified to be more
conservative and only recognize built-in type names for which converter
functions exist.
We probably need to think about and decide the hard language design issues
before reinstating or extending the feature. :-) Clint
