Hi Theresa, I easily can reproduce the kernel oops with you got with even later RHEL kernels (tested up to 2.6.18-164.6.1) and unionfs-2.4. The most stable version of unionfs more or less working with RHEL kernels is unionfs-2.5.3. Yet I would recommend recompiling a much later vanilla kernel. I patched kernel 2.6.31 with unionfs-2.5.3, built an RPM and everything just works.
