ADVENT VESPERS
SUNDAY, DECEMBER  4TH, 5:00pm
UNIVERSITY LUTHERAN CHURCH OF THE INCARNATION
CHESTNUT STREET AT 37TH STREET WALK

The University Lutheran Church of the Incarnation Choir will sing spirited Advent anthems by Brahms and Dietterich, and will lead the congregation in carols by J.S. Bach, Michael Praetorius, and others. The choir will be under the direction of Andrew Hauze, the new Director of Music at University Lutheran. Andrew is currently a conducting student at the Curtis School of Music, and has recently come to us from Old Zion Lutheran Church on Broad Street. Among the Hymns planned for congregational singing are:

        “Fling Wide the Door” ,
        “Come, Thou Long-Expected Jesus”,
        The King Shall Come,
        “O Day of Peace”,
        “Comfort, Comfort Now My People”,

The choir will be singing:
        “Wake, awake, for night is flying” –arranged by J.S. Bach,
        “The Angelic Greeting” – Johannes Brahms (op.22, no.1),
        and “Carol of the Advent” –Besançon Carol; arr. Philip Dietterich.
 
        “Rejoice Greatly, O Daughter of Zion” – G. F. Händel (from The Messiah)
        -Sara Posey, soprano
 
And organ music will include:

Four Advent Chorale Preludes:
            Wachet auf, ruft uns die Stimme
– Johann Gottfried Walther
            Veni, Veni, Emmanuel – Flor Peeters
            Creator of the Starry Skies – Jacques-Nicolas Lemmens
        Es ist ein Ros entsprungen – Johannes Brahms
        Allegro molto maestoso – Flor Peeters
