I am forwarding this message from Ed Goppelt, who attended and reported on the UCCC's Town Meeting about Bill 629. Melani Lamond Secretary, UCCC
I had hoped that Councilman DiCicco would withdraw Bill 629. People have written, phoned and faxed Council in droves with their concerns about this bill. Unfortunately, the Councilman has decided to push ahead anyway. In doing so, he has chosen not to listen to the pleas of the community that 629 should be sent back to committee for further study. If you care about this issue, it is imperative that you attend the next meeting of Council, IN PERSON, to let Council know that you oppose this bill. Where? Room 401 City Hall When? 9:30 am Thursday, September 13, 2001 If you cannot attend in person, write, phone or call your Councilmember. Probably the easiest option is to use your web browser to send a fax to Council. You can do so here: http://www.devbob.com/faxgw/bill629/faxForm For updates on the 629 situation, including a report on last Thursday's Council session, go to: http://www.devbob.com/bill629 What is Bill 629? Bill 629 is an amendment to Philadelphia's zoning code. It would make it much harder for citizens and the community groups which represent them to appeal zoning decisions.
