RedHat Linux is a distribution of the unix-like open-source operating
system, Linux.

Afterwards, 'stuff' will be given away, probably a number of copies of
RedHat Linux 8.0, and more..

If you are planning on coming it is not neccessary at all to RSVP, but
if you get a chance, please feel free to email kevin brosius at
[EMAIL PROTECTED] with your approximate headcount.

Feel free to email me ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) about this or any other
questions.

Redhat Linux and other Open-source and Free software is extremely
well-suited for use at community technology centers and other community
and non-profit projects due to their distribution methodology, rules, and
access to software source code. Open-source/free software is generally
by-the-people-for-the-people and licensed to keep it free and open for
your use. It is also free of licensing fees, so you do not need a
separate license nor do you need to pay any additional amount for each
computer you install the software on, nor for the number of users who use
them.

Even if you are using Microsoft Windows, DOS, or Macs, there is open
source software for you such as the Office Suite OpenOffice.org and the
graphics manipulation program the Gimp, available at
http://www.openoffice.org/ and http://www.gimp.org/ There are thousands
of other opensource and freesoftware programs which you may find of use.
You may already be using opensource software without even knowing it, such
as the popular webserver, Apache available at http://www.apache.org/

Open-source software is software which you have the access and rights to
freely distribute, and have access to the code that it is written in, so
that you may change it to suit your needs, fix bugs and problems in it,
and also freely distribute your changes.

For more information on Open Source software go to http://www.opensource.org

Linux also relies HEAVILY on GNU software from the Free Software Foundation,
and the Free Software Foundation's GPL (General Public License) which
gives you these rights. For more information on the Free Software
Foundation as well as the GPL and other FSF licenses and projects, go to
http://www.fsf.org/

Please note, Slackware, from where I am writing this email is also a
popular Linux Distribution. Slackware Linux is the oldest existing Linux
Distribution. Slackware Linux is geared towards maintaining the most
Unix-Like distribution and is favored by many for it's KISS principles and
reliability. Slackware is very good to learn Unix and Linux on as it lets
you get close to the software and configuration, and maintenance of the
system without confusing configuration files or dependencies. For more
information on Slackware Linux, go to http://www.slackware.com/
http://store.slackware.com/ and support sites http://www.linuxpackages.net
and http://www.userlocal.com/
