Having been involved in community organizations myself, I think your demand
that SHCA place a flyer in every mailbox (which I believe is illegal) every
time it decides to hold a meeting is unrealistic. SHCA is a community
organization consisting of a board of, I believe, non-paid volunteers. There
are limits to what an all volunteer group can accomplish. Perhaps, since
this issue is important to you, you can volunteer to distribute the meeting
notices so those who work late and ignore postings can stay informed.

I think it's a little beside the point to fault Mr. Mostetter for his suggestion. The SHCA could have provided public information about its meeting with the _Hack_ people after it had happened, and used the opportunity to a) inform people about what's likely to happen, and maybe b) convene a public discussion about how to minimize the impact. There could have been articles in the UC Review, or announcements to this mailing list. This could have been something that we'd be addressing in an open and community-minded manner for several weeks. Instead, this issue comes out only after some questions are raised on this mailing list. The people who were actually _involved_ don't reply at all, even after the fact.

Actually, one aspect of Jon Mourar's note is more than a little troublesome. He states that "The agenda is just for reps from Hack and the city's film office to take questions and hear concerns from the community." That's nice, but the question I raised was with the alleged "community representatives" who met with these other offices, who failed to consult the community, and who apparently got $500 and a tree for whatever efforts were involved. Matter of fact, we haven't even learned the _names_ of these people. Will _they_ be taking questions as well?
