I'm against it. I'd prefer to know which people are assholes and which aren't, and telling them to keep it under wraps makes it more difficult. I agree - I don't have a problem with the "noise" level on this list, but I do have a kill file. A kill file is a nice compromise between appointing a censor for the group and having to put up with excessive noise. Each person exercises editorial control over their own posts, and each person decides for themselves whose posts they want to read. People can keep their posts "main-stream" and reach a larger audience, or they can push the limits and only be seen by people who want to read that type of post. Everyone decides for themselves. The down-side to this approach is that new-comers to the list get bombarded with *everything*, until they decide who to screen out. Actually, maybe that's a good thing. I don't think we don't need a moderator/censor. Mailing lists and newsgroups have been dealing with this problem for decades, and there is technology to deal with the problem. --- Chip PS: in the interests of brevity (getting to work on time), I didn't include examples of how a mailing list can develop into overlapping sub-communities, and why putting someone in a kill file isn't permanent. ---- You are receiving this because you are subscribed to the list named "UnivCity."
