Controversy over unleashed dogs was the main issue at the Friends of Clark Park winter Membership Meeting. For months now complaints about aggressive dogs, mostly in the Bowl, have been simmering in the neighborhood. Members introduced three proposals that related to dogs.

The meeting took place at Rosenberger Hall, at 43rd & Kingsessing, this past Tuesday. More than 55 people crammed into a USP classroom for serious debate on the way dogs and people are getting along in the park these days. Both "pro" and "con" factions were well represented. Discussion was impassioned while remaining focused and courteous. It covered a wide range of views.

An ad hoc study committee will be appointed from among dozens of volunteers. It will look into the feasability of a dedicated dog run, of leash law enforcement, and other related issues.

Loook to next week's University City Review for more extensive coverage of this meeting.

In other business, the committee on amplified-sound events reported that it is preparing recommendations for a few minor changes in the Rec Dept's guidelines for festivals. These should reduce stress on the community and make festival organizers' jobs easier. A design contest for a new logo and artwork for FoCP was announced. Look for details soon!
