The correct way to do it is to pull INTO the intersection, and PAST the crosswalk, so that you don't block it. This gives you the opportunity to quickly make the turn just as the light turns red!!!


agreed. I was taught to pull to the centerline of the intersection and keep my wheels straight until able to make the turn--so that if I was struck from behind I wouldn't turn into a headon crash. I find this is also a useful cue to oncoming traffic which often expects me to turn ahead of them as the light turns green--since many local drivers have this habit.
