Hi Squirrel Hill Community Gardeners and neighbors,

Please take a minute to send a letter to Mayor Street our City Council members about this very serious threat to Bartram's Garden and its neighbors in South West Philly.
I saw Nancy today and she said that this time there is a frightenly good chance that this will go through without any public hearings. The only thing that may stop it is serious, very vocal public outcry. Follow her links it's really easy and will mean a lot. Thank you.

Subject: [UCGreen] another trash plant proposed near Bartram's Garden

Hi neighbors -

I'm passing this on to everyone I know who might be concerned about this
threat to a unique southwest Philadelphia resource. If you have time to
write an actual paper letter, I imagine those still carry more weight, but
if not, this is a quick way to add your voice to the protests. This is the
third time in about three years that such a plant has been proposed. Our
mayor just doesn't seem to get it - people do want this to happen. It's
clear to nearly everyone else but him & Jannie Blackwell that the few jobs
provided by this plant wouldn't compare to value - in jobs & in quality of
life - of cleaning up the lower Schuylkill and the neighborhoods along it.
These neighborhoods have been treated as dumping grounds for way too long.

Anyone who wishes to write to the Mayor or City Council in opposition to a
waiver for operating a trash plant within 300 yards of Bartram's Garden can
now do so easily at:
http://www.hallwatch.org/faxbank/trashplant
Letters will be automatically faxed to the mayor and all council members...
Very easy and very effective.

Blessings,
Nancy Wygant
Assistant Gardener, Historic Bartram's Garden
