I do agree that what the unions did at the convention center was a fiasco. I
work in union atmospheres and have never run across that type of
uncooperativeness at other places. But in the entertainment business unions
are necessary to make it possible to earn a living. Otherwise, companies
like MTV and Disney will use non professionals (students, interns, fame
seekers) to do professional work. The catch is that these non professionals
are training for jobs that don't exist because they  already are the
replacements for the professionals.
