Friends of Clark Park and Neighbors,

I'd like to encourage everyone to come to the FOCP general membership meeting tonight at 7:30 PM in the bowl at Clark Park. Per FOCP President Tony West's posts there will be a lot going on tonight:

*** GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING

"A performance by singer-songwriter and guitar stylist Cassendre Xavier. Steven M. Wilson of Borders has described this talented recording artist as "a cross between Tracey Chapman, Sade and Enya." We'll also provide free lemonade to cool you off.

Our keynote speaker is Gregorio Cojulun. The dynamic leader of
Friends of Malcolm X Park has inspired a dramatic turnaround in the
formerly shabby neighborhood park at 51st & Larchwood. It's looking
quite spiffy these days and has become the most active venue for
organized events in West Philadelphia -- more even than Clark Park!
Come make the acquaintance of the interesting civic activist who has
sparked this renaissance.

There is important business on the table at this meeting as well.
The Dog Committee has begun to narrow down the options for the
management of unleashed dogs in the park. It will make an interim
report at the meeting. Your feedback is needed! The Dept. of
Recreation has updated its guidelines for amplified-sound events in
the park. We will review the process of festival scheduling. And we
will vote on a proposal to raise membership dues starting January,
2005.

In the event of rain, we will meet in Rosenberger Hall at 43rd &
Kingsessing instead."

***

I'd also like to have members who are planning on helping (or would like to help in the future with work projects at Clark Park) to come to the meeting. We have a work day planned for this Saturday at 9:00 AM and I'm still not sure how many volunteers we'll have.

Also, anyone interested in becoming a member of the Friends of Clark Park should come this evening and sign up (and avoid the rush in September).

Just in case, I've included the information on this Saturday's work day below. Again, if you're planning on coming, please email me so that I can get a good count of how much food and material to have delivered on Saturday.

*** BELGIAN BLOCK DAY

There'll be another round of Belgian-Block-Work on Saturday, July 17,
2004, starting at 9:00 AM and going until 1:30 PM. This work day is
sponsored by Citizen's bank (the bank that didn't get indicted).

If you'll be coming down for the Farmer's Market that day, please bring
your gloves and help us put in another section of Belgian Block. We need
folks to remove the dirt, move the sand, lay the blocks, and put in mulch around any trees. If we have enough volunteers we'll also try to
mulch some of the mature trees in the rest of the park.

Thanks to the good offices of John Fenton of UCD, the Belgian Block will
be waiting for us and we won't have to go get it.

If you have questions or if you're planning on coming, please let me
know as we'll have a breakfast and lunch for the volunteers (courtesy of
Abbracios) and I'll need to know how many to order for. My email address
is [EMAIL PROTECTED]

I'm hoping to see a lot of folks there and don't forget that the next
day I'll be Guest Chef at Abbracios and that a portion of the proceeds
of the folks who come while I'm the Chef are donated to the Friends of
Clark Park for park upkeep.

Anyway, please come out and meet your neighbors and help us give the
Farmer's Market folks something stable to stand on as well as a cleaner
and safer park.

Thanks,

Andy
