As Willy Sutton replied when asked why he robbed banks -- that's where the money is!

Successful gentrification implies "more stuff" worth stealing; more people on the streets with money in their pockets to mug; more vehicles with stuff there for the picking.

This is also the reason why the "suburbs" have experienced a general rise in crime while Urban areas experience a decline ... it's where the "goods" are.

This tradition goes back to Robin Hood and the Highwayman, if not the first caveman. They whacked somebody over the head when they knew it would be worth their effort.
