Title: RE: [UC] Absentee Ballots?

This is really low, even for you, Matt.

What I had heard is that, in order to shorten the lines at all the local polling places for the hoards of Democrats expected to vote, that all Republicans in University City are required to vote at the intersection of 44th and Regent Streets.

I have been hearing the same things about absentee ballot problems.
Five people (four Republicans and one Democrat) have contacted me with
information that they applied for absentee ballots weeks ago and had
still not received them.  I checked with the Commissioner's office and
was told that they had no record of an application from one and that the
other four had been sent out, but possibly not until last weekend.  Two
of them arrived two days ago and were returned.  The other two had not
been received as of last night.

As much as I would like to have said that this was a conspiracy by the
two Democratic Commissioners to suppress the Republican vote, I suspect
that it is simply overwork and incompetence.  If we ever elect a
majority of Republicans to the City Commission, we could expect a step
up in competence.

You should let your friends know that due to the large number of new
registrations, the state Bureau of Elections has made some important
changes in the election day procedures to make things flow more smoothly
and to accomodate the large numbers of people who want to vote.  For
this election, only Republicans will vote on November 2nd, only
Democrats will vote on November 3rd and on November 4th non-partisans
and anyone who had not voted before will vote.  I think it will hurt the
Republican chances of taking Pennsylvania as we have to vote first and
the Democrats will then have a pretty good idea of how many votes they
will need to overcome the Repulican vote.  We'll see how it works.

Remember to remind your non-Republican friends that they will vote on
either November 3rd or November 4th.

Sincerely,

Matt Wolfe

Has anyone else applied for an absentee ballot? If so, have you received
it yet?

A co-worker filed for one close to a month ago (well with in the time
frame) and has yet to receive her ballot - which is due back tomorrow. I
have heard this story from a number of other people - all registered
democrats in Philadelphia. My co-worker's phone calls have resulted in a
lot of run-around. One person at the office handling the absentee
ballots did tell her that her ballot was sent out Wednesday a week ago
and must have been lost in the mail. But would not send out another. The
other missing absentee ballots are unexplained.

Before we get to far into the conspiracy theory, I wanted to know if
anyone else is experiencing any difficulty in getting their absentee
ballots? Or has anyone applied for an absentee ballot and received it
with no problems?

Thanks!

Naomi
