BTW, that "big hole" was the underground parking garage at the Civic Center. The "new" exhibition hall was built at ground level with something like 8 levels of parking below it.
The hole is part of the home of the new Philadelphia Cancer Center, CHOP and HUP facility.
One of 3 new parking garage buildings (west end of the lot) is already completed and in use.
As I understand it, construction has been awaiting demolition of the Civic Center and Exhibition hall buildings, as the entire parcel gets divided up into several buildings and ownership divided between Penn and CHOP.
