i remember when i moved in here 10 years ago, the radio shack car alarm was very popular on my block and you'd frequenlty hear a car in the middle of the night bellowing "i've been tampered with! i've been tampered with!" -- i hear far fewer car alarms these days, i can only assume that's because they're better configured these days.
