From what I have read, Verizon has backed off its support of HB30.

Sure, after they got it passed...that's a pretty neat trick.

Haven't looked in VOIP. I don't think the main phone users in our house would be very keen on that option. Also since our Netgear router keeps dropping connections it would be really annoying...

Thanks for your suggestions, I'll look into CTI.

Have you considered VOP phone service? If you have an independent broadband connection, this may be a viable alternative to a landline phone.

Hi,

We've been using Working Assets for our local and long distance phone
company. Unfortunately they are getting out of the local phone market.
Does anyone a company other than Verizon as their local carrier? Since
Verizon is behind HB30 (PA's effort to block Philly's wireless
initiative), I see no reason to support them with my business. Whether
I believe in the Philly wireless efforts or not, the fact that Verizon
is trying to remove our ability to decide for ourselves is really appalling.

Thanks,
Stephen
