My point was that the article reference by A.K. talked about concerns over
how the University's proposed "land grab" was already forcing down property
prices, whereas, in UC, we all know that since Penn decided to abandon the
Fordham University urban planning model (i.e., build a really big fence) and
began to invest in the neighborhood, real estate prices have increased at a
greater rate than almost any area in the metropolitan area. Obviously, my
sarcasm was lost on both Mark and Ray.

I still think you may be missing the point of al's post, which was entitled "the 800-lb gorilla has cousins," not "the 800-lb gorilla has an identical twin." surely al wasn't pointing out that one university's land grab was the same as another university's real estate ventures. and surely you didn't mean to conclude from his post that 'luck' is what's at play for all the owners of real estate in uc. and surely mark didn't mean anyone would need to venture towards affordable places.

Umm. My impression from the prices of real estate in the area is that
folks who own real estate stand to make some nice money. I saw a listing
at 46th and Spruce that is OVER $500.000. A middle class couple
would have a nice time paying that mortgage. They might want to venture
towards West Powelton or 49th Street North of Spruce to find an
affordable place.

Perhaps they will be as unlucky as all the owners of real estate in UC
have been.

unless they have some definition of 'unlucky' and 'owners'
and 'venture towards' I'm missing?
