West Philadelphia Freecycle (www.freecycle.org) is also an excellent resource for re-homing unwanted items. I've used it on several occastions to find new owners for toy trains, bread makers, waffle irons and the like.
People will often post a "curb alert" saying they've put something on the curb, first come first serve. Every time I've done it, my white elephant has been gone in a matter of minutes.
