University of the Sciences in Philadelphia is a particular source of expertise on the handling of pharmaceuticals. It has disseminated PR during this year on exactly this subject. There are significant concerns with toxicity and pollution. I'd recommend checking with its PR department.

has anyone experience with or expertise in how to dispose of various chemicals, including lithium, indomethacin, ancient antibiotics... and some other miscellaneous old i.e. outdated or useless meds? Talking to CVS people I had the distinct impression that they would not incinerate them, but probably send them to a land fill... ugh. the rivers don't seem like a good idea... compost heap? a cook out and burn them up ourselves? I do know the toxic waste people will take batteries, paints, etc..... has anyone given them old medicines?

thanks for any hints or connects..

Vivianne
