The selection of popsicles was definitely better back in the 70s when
Sam owned it.
They also had candy cigarettes and pixies sticks.
It started getting a little too upscale when Jeff and Joel owned it.
I don't know why they stopped selling Wacky Packs.

It's just that I remember a time when it was lively and well-

great place to pick up the Sunday Times. When my dog companion was
still alive, I walked over in that direction frequently, more often
after some of the amazing snow storms of the early 90s.
But I remember visiting the store at one point and being shocked at
how shoddy everything looked, freezers and refrigerators falling
apart and not repaired, almost empty of food. Even the pastries
looked a bit moth-eaten. Then came a resurgence of life and
money. Then it seemed to never match the earlier almost grandeur
appearing a bit down at the heels. Maybe the robberies were an
important element; I don’t really know.
After my dog went to heaven to play with Rin Tin Tin and Lassie, I
never walked there again and certainly didn't shop there much at
all. That would have been in '99. So you may be right about the
present condition.

Not by me it hasn't.
One used to be able get a dozen eggs or emergency paper towels, cat
food or something as recently as five years ago.
Sam's never closed before 6 PM. It was always open before 8 AM.
Now one never knows when it's open.

Color me confused by your email. But hasn't Sam's fit that

Even though I have complained about customers blocking my driveway
for
years, but I hate to see Sam's Place become the not well-stocked,
"Brigadoon" business it is becoming.
Has anyone else noticed how seldom it seems to be open and has
nothing when
it is?
