I guess it's showing my age.
 
But, when I was into comic books, they cost a nickel... but buying one  meant:
    *   Skipping my weekly ice cream cone 
    *   Taking the dime my mother gave me for a cone for myself and my 
brother,  screwing my brother, and buying myself both an ice cream and a comic 
book 
    *   Sitting out there by the curb with my shoe shine kit and hoping to 
get  five customers.
