Citizens,
The link for the PA right to know law in this Daily News editorial is broken.
I have included below a good site for remaining citizens to begin learning
about this last best hope for democracy. (You can also search, “PA Right to
know law.”)
As I previously reported on this public list, Nutter’s City Planning Commission
and the historic commission, falsify the records of public hearings to hide the
backroom dealings with wealthy universities and real estate developers. Use of
this PA state law is the only mechanism that can ever hope to bring
transparency and accountability to our city plutocracy.
As many also know, Penn’s mayor has justified Penn’s budget for the city by
using an outrageous propaganda campaign called the Penn project for civic
engagement and calling it the “people’s budget.” Again, secrecy and hidden
data has kept citizens from crafting an accurate people’s budget. (Although
the Penn civic engagement “findings” were a complete fraud, I witnessed the
range of good ideas which came from our fellow Philadelphians which Penn tossed
in the trash.)
By simply taxing big international corporations at a previous tax rate from a
few years ago, we could get a tremendous boost at closing the budget gap. I
heard a proposal to exempt all small businesses and reinstate this tax rate for
multinational corporations who do business here. These companies avoid taxes
by doing business here but claiming no net income. The fear mongering about
driving away this business is absurd. Will the big companies stop selling
beer, ham, and soda in Philadelphia if they have to pay any fair tax? Hahaha!
When I asked why a total revenue projection was not given with this idea, I was
told that the city was claiming that it could not provide the needed data.
Citizens, if we don’t start fighting for a democracy (transparency, honesty,
and accountability) we are dooming our descendents to a life of tyranny and
slavery while a tiny international elite live lives of luxury with unlimited
power over the masses. Please learn about this state right to know law. We
need to join together with the other remaining citizens outside of our district
and take this jackass government to court routinely until we restore hope for a
representative democracy. The links:
