The Streets Dept will hold a hearing on Wednesday, August 26 from 9AM to 12 PM and from 5PM to 8PM. The primary topic will be the outrageous $500 fee the Dept wants to levy on every small building (six or fewer units) with a commercial zoning, to pick up the trash. Other aspects of the trash hauling regulations (such as the SWEEP violations or the investor-unfriendly set-out times) may or may not also be fair game. For your convenience, a copy of the city's trash regulations, including the $500 fee, is online at _http://www.icodat.com/notrashfee/wasteregs.pdf_ (http://www.icodat.com/notrashfee/wasteregs.pdf) . The location is Conference Room Y of the Municipal Services Building (16th Floor) - 1401 John F. Kennedy Boulevard - Philadelphia, PA 19102-1676. If you are affected by the $500 fee, you owe it to yourself to attend. Our esteemed mayor apparently thinks he can go back on his promise of "no trash fees" by picking on an ostensibly vulnerable group. Good attendance at this meeting by people who speak their piece will show we're not quite as vulnerable as he thinks... that, in fact, it may be he who is vulnerable.
