New subscribers might not know that Fry was part of the formal transformation of Penn.  To me, modern universities are now primarily corporate style businesses in this model.  All of the values and principles, which were once cherished concepts upon which universities were founded, are completely obsolete.  Power, profit, and conflict of interest become the only values under this very utilitarian transformation.  Education, research, and open _expression_ are only important, under this business model, if these are means to profit and power. The president of gentrifying land grabbing universities becomes chiefly a used neighborhood salesman.  That's why Fry doesn't need a scholarly background to be a conquering CEO.  He was one of the creators of our beloved UCD. Your favorite peace monger and utopianist, Glenn PS: I deleted a reply to the censored Penn list.  One of the problems with censorship is that people who are banned from the site with non public archives, can not know or respond to comments focused toward them. If there are other comments on the censored list which comment about me, could you please forward them to the public list so the identities of censorship supporters are exposed to our neighbors?
