Dear Neighbors, Tonight, Father Thorne, an African American priest, will lead a discussion on "Racism" to include what he describes as positive elements thereof. This is part of the continuing education program led by Sr. Francis Joseph. This is an encore presentation of a well received presentation made at St. Joseph University. The talk lasts about a half hour, followed by questions and light refreshments. The nuns are "Early to bed..." people so plan to arrive on time and be gently shown the door by 9 PM.The convent is at 1001 S. 47th Street, Phila, PA 19143.There is no charge for this event. All are welcome, this is not just a 'Roman Catholic' event. This might be a slow night as Sr. Fran was ill and did not do her usual PR.So it could be an ideal time to visit the Convent, check out their new Chapel (and see just what can be done with a space that some define as 'shed'), and meet the sisters and catch up with Fr. Thorne who is a former resident of the de Sales Rectory. If you have never met Sr. Fran, don't delay. Our local ball of energy is in her 9th decade. As a member of an active-contemplative order, she has managed to lead a life with influence on many of the world's movers and shakers. She taught Grace Kelly and had significant contact with Corazone Aquino and led a delegation that resulted in the successful canonization of a French Saint Marie Eugenie, RA. She has lived and taught all around the globe. The 7 sisters of the convent hail from France, Guatemala, the Philippines and Baltimore, Maryland. They have taught in India, Japan, the Philippines, France, Spain and through-out the USA. They have a school in the Southwest and are active in immigration reform. They are gracious, remarkable hosts and an asset to our neighborhood. I plan to attend and hope I will see some of our neighbors at the talk.Few things are more difficult to discuss than racism, and I don't want to miss an opportunity to hear Fr. Thorne's analysis or to listen and respond to the questions that might flow more freely in an atmosphere charged by compassion and not mistrust. Please pardon duplicates and please forward to people who might have interest (including teachers, leaders and mentors of all, or no, religions). All the best!Liz Elizabeth Campion PRUDENTIAL, FOX & ROACH REALTORS, LLC Phila, PA & New Castle County, DE215-790-5653 Philadelphia Desk302-368-1621 Newark Desk 215-880-2930 Cell & Emergency
