Neighbors, A quick word of thanks to all of our friends and neighbors who have expressed support over the last couple days. Our beloved dog, Blakey, is badly torn up, but should survive his injuries barring any unforeseen complications.
According to the PPD officers that took my information and filed the report, there is little that they can do as this is regarded as a civil or property crime. They also said that I should contact the SPCA so that they have record of the attack. Aside from filing a lawsuit (and the owner did not look like he could afford our vet bills) it seems that we have little recourse. I want to ensure that this animal is euthanized so that it does no more harm, but I am unsure where to begin. If anyone has any ideas about where to start please contact me via email at steveandm...@hotmail.com. I have also posted some photographs of the dog/ owner I took before running off to PennVet - http://www.flickr.com/photos/sminicola/sets/72157626431017242/ If you live, work, walk near 47th and Chester I recommend watching for and giving the owner a clear path. Judging by the way he handled his animal after the incident he knows a thing or two about dog fights.
