I am forwarding this on to the list in hopes that some of you on it might be able to host one or two of these students.

There is a group of Chinese students coming to the U.S. in July 16th and they are looking for local American families to stay with. (Please see more details below). I was wondering if you know people who might be interested in having this cross-cultural communication experience. Could you you please let them know of this opportunity or suggest me a contact list so I can contact them directly?

Sorry this is such a short notice. I am trying to get 5 families in 4 days. I will really appreciate it if you can spread the word. Please let me know if there is any questions/concerns. I would be happy to answer any questions! My number is 267 994 8870. Everyone is welcome to call any time of the day. I look forward to hearing from you!

Thanks so much,
Yidan

Why Hosting a Student:
- Getting to know Chinese language and culture and extending your global view
- Meeting other families in the community and starting lasting friendships
- If you have kids, it will be extremely useful to introduce international friends into the family for your kids. Our past experience tells us that some children from hosting families start to learn a foreign language, international trade or international law after their interesting experience in this program! - "Isn't it just nice to have one or two young people from China in the family for a while?"

About this program:
7 Chinese junior high and high school students come to take English classes and experience the culture for 2 weeks (July 16th-Aug 1st). The school they come from is one of the higher end schools in Guangzhou, China. They will spend time with host families at night and in the weekend. I attached a "Tentative Itinerary" and"Introduction to PeopleLink" which shows in detail how these two weeks look like.

Criterion for a host family:
Families can host 1 or 2 students. There is a stipend of $20/night for hosting 1 student and $30/night for hosting 2 students. - Two or more related people in each family. (They don't have to have a kid in the family to host a student). Please do let us know if there is only one person.
    - At least one native English speaker in the home (can be a child).
    - Family agrees to speak English while the student is with them.
- Family agrees to treat their student like a member of the family and have the student help with chores and participate in the activities the family has planned for this time period. - Student has their own bed in which to sleep. The student may share a room with a child of the same gender. If there is no extra bed, please let us know and we can work it out. - Family provides all meals including a sack lunch for the day's activities. - Family provides transportation to and from the study center. People link can cover the cost if families use public transportation. The study center is on Penn campus.
