Rather than watching the bipartisan distractions in support of health corporations, it's a good time for people to consider reform of our broken for profit health care system. Here is a good discussion on Democracy Now:

Apologists for the Democrats continue to claim that PPACA will improve like social security. Nonsense! The 2000+ page law, written by the corporations, was designed to have all "consumer protections" deconstructed quietly, one bit at a time. Anyone who believes the social security comparison, forced by the civil rights and feminist struggles, does not understand how complex regulations are the corporate lobbyists dream come true!

Republican's anger about charity to the poor is being manipulated through the promises of medicaid expansion! But we know that the medicaid system was already collapsing, leaving covered individuals without access to doctors. Soon, no physicians in the for profit primary care business will accept medicaid! I know some doctors, who refuse medicaid, do some gratis care because of their personal desire to help the poor.

Millions of people know that the "pre-existing condition" reforms have already been subverted. When Blue Cross shifted thousands of Pennsylvanians from full coverage to junk insurance, they ended the entire product line! They've done it once again while raising rates. Millions of people are individually getting these new product letters!

By ending the full coverage that many of us invested in, for decades, all consumers are constantly being dropped and forced to be new customers. I actually need to pay $11,000 in premium and deductibles before I would get 1 penny in coverage. Clearly, this method of purging everyone by ending "the product" will be the corporate loophole developed to drop and bankrupt anyone who gets sick from year to year. They simply drop everyone!

Do you see why the poor and middle class will skip health screenings even though democrats can proclaim a victory in these "covered expenses" for those with junk insurance? They applaud themselves for extending coverage even though it is completely useless when people need to see a doctor! They exclaim that cancer and glaucoma screenings will be covered but forget to mention that $5000 or 10,000 deductible.

Can people see why small business people and the middle class get angry when they think the poor will get services they know they are deprived of? Those being manipulated to the Republican "blame the poor camp" are not recognizing that the medicaid expansion is a big fraud. All the continuing nonsense brought by corporate media does is to keep people cheering for their Democrat/Republican camps while remaining ignorant of the real health care crisis and its destruction of the economy.

As Dr Woolhandler points out, the safety net that allows some hospitals and doctors to accept medicaid and the uninsured is targeted for destruction, so that nearly a half trillion dollars can be sent to the insurance corporations to provide junk insurance! This catastrophe insurance is an extremely profitable product because it denies access to care through the financial barriers for at least half of all Americans, and then shifts the sick to the government shortly after any citizen is bankrupted.

Would some individual provisions of the PPACA law be a positive step? Of course, but these will all be stripped out leaving the half trillion dollars moved from health care safety nets to corporate profit.

Here is the simple constitutional bill that reforming health care requires. "Health care is a human right. Medicare will cover all US citizens from the time of birth." Do you see how much shorter that is than the 2000 page PPACA?

Demand a medicare for all health care system!

Glenn
