Here is an excellent essay by H. Giroux. He correctly identifies major HIDDEN components of the neoliberal war on public education and the deskilling of the teaching profession. He touches on the university/corporate collaboration in this war to design curricula and assessments which are "teacher proof." He touches on the neoliberal bargain with the upper classes, who expect gentrified zones with private schools while public schools become a prison/military/servant pipeline incapable of preparing the young for citizenship in a democracy.
Mental health systems, being talked about since the Sandy Hook killings, have also been destroyed through a very similar war, as I've often written about. Mental health practitioners mostly monitor highly profitable pharmaceutical interventions, and that is the extent of mental health systems for the masses. The way most of us have ignored the interconnected realities of the neoliberal war on all parts of the public good is quite insane! As our society has been collapsing, we fiddle with our gadgets and positive thinking the way Nero fiddled long ago. Please take the time to closely read this very important essay, so that you can begin to understand the power and ideology threatening all of us.
