Same problem here. I'm also unable to start gwget, but I think that's
caused by some gconf stuff I broke.

The problem here that the correct (gconf?) schemas aren't installed,
IIRC. I've built gwget 0.97 a couple of times, with and without the
schemas (because they conflicted with other packages), and I remember
having this problem when using ./configure --disable-schemas-install

It didn't segfault however. I was just unable to do anything with the
UI.
