Iain: I have had a few crashes with miro now but they all seem to be
related to pulseaudio. Don't know whether it would make sense to make
the backend interfaces more robust in miro.

James: As long as I've been using Ubuntu (few years) the Xine backend has
supported far more codecs than gstreamer and was much more stable. With jaunty
xine is so far surprisingly unstable and has quite a few regressions - which
actually doesn't bother me too much since gstreamer seems to have improved
quite a bit.
In general I agree - I'd say before the beta launch there should be a decision
whether xine is still stable enough to be the default option for the release.
