Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better.
There are several points I want to say in response to your bug report. 1) The FPC and Lazarus maintainer is packaging for Debian and does not actively solve or investigate Ubuntu related issues. Apparently nobody in the Ubuntu community really cared for FPC and Lazarus. See especially bug 275688, FPC should be removed from Hardy or updated, but nothing is happening. I will in the future make sure that bugs are forwarded to the Debian bugtracker. 2) Mainly because of bug 275688 in upstream, FPC changed a bit from version 2.2.0 to 2.2.2. Everybody in the outside world expects that we have moved on from 2.2.0, so problem with FPC in Ubuntu of Intrepid and before are really for Ubuntu to solve. 3) If a .deb from anywhere but Ubuntu gives you problems, you are quite on your own as far as Ubuntu is concerned. The Ubuntu project can not support or fix packages from others. Please report the bug to the provider of the software package, but keep in mind that for most packagers the state of Hardy is too old to actively fix bugs for. 4) Because I had issues with FPC and Lazarus when building my package WinFF, I have newer versions of FPC and Lazarus available in my PPA [1] for Hardy and Intrepid. You can use those if it helps you (instructions for using a PPA are available at [1]). 5) I like to understand your problems, because in Intrepid (which I used before) and Jaunty I did not have problems, so it looks like things have improved. Could you provide me with some relevant links to bugs, because I don't see many here on Launchpad.
