The very first line returned by the first test led to the solution: I
had an old 42-madfuload.rules in /etc/udev/rules.d that overrode the new
one in /lib/udev/rules.d. Deleted it, now it works! Sorry for wasting
your time by being so stupid.

There is a slight problem remaining, however. The Transit works only
once, if I want to use it again after unplugging it I have to reboot:

1. Boot system
2. Plug in Transit: works
3. Unplug Transit
4. Plug in Transit (no matter which USB port): does not work
5. Reboot system
6. Plug in Transit: works
