AFAIK Mandriva has the MCC whilst Fedora has yum, so they both should
take care of package installation/dependencies etc. I don't know
whether FC4 has KDE, but on the Mandriva box I'm now getting used to
it, and I must admit I'm kinda liking it!

Perl was definately installed in one of the installations because I
entered a command and it came back with the currently installed
version, which was 5.8.x. I can't understand why it wasn't installed
this time around. Hopefully "myself" Wrote:

this now means it's installed.

All I need to know now is what I need to do to carry on. Do I go right
back to the beginning of this thread, and do the 'cd /','mkdir setup'
etc, or wait until someone else tries an install?
