I've heard from a few people really liking SlimCD.
I'd agree with the others, you picked the wrong distro. You want a
server that runs only in console mode, not any GUI. I like Gentoo (been
using it for years). It seems scary but their online documentation is
one of the best if not the best to setup the system. The beauty of it
is that once your system is setup there is NOTHING running on that
server so no wasted CPU for things you don't need. That means that
whatever you want to use needs to be installed. Which under Gentoo
means compiled and on a 300Mhz that might take a while...

Install ssh and you don't even need to setup an ftp server, you can use
SFTP which is buildin with ssh. Use PuTTY to administer it from your
windows machine. for file transfert I like Filezilla (filezilla.sf.net)
which support sft.

Also not sure how many squeezboxes you're planning to use on that
server but if they one client makes the machine peak at 10% you'll run
into trouble as you connect more of them at the same time. You also
seem a bit short in RAM I woul definitely add a few GB there.

Good luck!
