Two questions: Are you familiar with Ubuntus package management? If not read up (start from e.g. https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Repositories/Ubuntu) and be amazed by how easy it is to keep everything on your machine updated. Question 2: Did you install by using the slimdevices repository as described in http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.cgi?DebianPackage? I hope you did, because in that case slimserver is taken care of by the package management system...
