[solved] SS is looking for a separate alc conf entry in 6.5. I duplicated the mplayer entry for mov wav to alc wav and the file plays correctly.
The Server file types interface is misleading. The file types says "Apple AAC, Lossless or Movie File WAV mplayer" when actually SS will not play ALAC files unless a second line "Apple Lossless WAV mplayer" is also enabled.
