noxmms may also work for you. It's a command line verson of XMMS. Mplayer and VLC will probably do the trick as well. Just have to point them to the stream using something like "mplayer url://localhost:9000/steam.mp3" . Don't quote me on that as I haven't tried it. Each of them will connect as a client and should then be manageable from the browser though there will be more lag than an actual Squeezebox or even SoftSqueeze.
