While this thread seems abandoned I found the information here useful and I think it is still relevant as throw-away hardware seems to become more and more powerful.
Here's my info: - Slimserver 6.5 running on a Jetway B860T with a PIII @ 1.2GHz and 128MB of PC100 RAM. - OS is FreeBSD 6.2 without X and only ssh in addition to the slimserver related apps/libs. It runs a custom kernel - unused stuff is trimmed out. - I use a 320GB ATA100 WD drive (8M cache) strictly for data; there are 2 partitions of ~150GB using UFS2. The system drive is on a different IDE channel and much smaller. - My collection consists of 320kBit/s FLAC files (my CD collection) and some MP3. Roughly there are ~5000 tracks and I keep adding as I digitize them. It runs smoothly and without stutter even while the server is updating the DB w clean & update option. The free memory is ~480K while updating and ~17M during normal serving (w ~50M inactive). I only have a SB2 client but I'll try it with an additional softsqueeze or two. -- fry ------------------------------------------------------------------------ fry's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1971 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=32056 _______________________________________________ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/unix
